Charging cable type 2 3-phase 16A (Mennekes) for electric cars

Are you looking for a safe charging cable for your EV with 11 kW charging capacity? Then choose a Type 2 charging cable with 3-phase 16A connection. Suitable for home, work and public charging stations.

Which charging cable is suitable for your EV with a Type 2 and 3-phase 16A connection?

Do you have an electric car with a Type 2 connector and a 3-phase 16A on-board charger? Then a charging cable with a charging capacity of 11 kW is the right choice. Many popular models from brands like Volkswagen (ID.3, ID.4) , Hyundai (Kona Electric) , and Peugeot (e-208) charge with 3-phase 11 kW as standard. A Type 2 to Type 2 charging cable with 3-phase 16A is then optimally matched to your vehicle and the public charging infrastructure.

These charging cables use Mode 3 charging , meaning you can safely charge at all standard public charging stations with a Type 2 socket. Our cables are CE-approved, robust, and tested for compatibility and safety. You can choose from various lengths, giving you flexibility at any charging station.

Charging speed, connection and plug type explained

A 3-phase 16A cable supports up to 11 kW of charging power , distributed over three 16-amp phases. This ensures faster charging times than single-phase charging, while still using standard connections at public charging stations. The Type 2 plug is the European standard and suitable for virtually all EVs manufactured from 2018 onwards.

While a heavier 22 kW cable (3-phase 32A) would also work, it won't offer any extra speed if your car has an 11 kW onboard charger. So, an 11 kW cable is just right: efficient, affordable, and lighter to carry.

Frequently asked questions about Type 2 3-phase 16A charging cables

How do I know if my car supports 11 kW charging?

Check the onboard charger specifications. If your vehicle supports 3-phase charging up to 16A per phase, then 11 kW is the maximum, and a 3-phase 16A charging cable is sufficient.

Can I also use an 11 kW cable at a 22 kW charging station?

Yes. The station offers 22 kW, but your car and cable together determine the actual charging capacity. Charging with an 11 kW cable to a 22 kW station is safe and normal.

Why not use a 22 kW cable for 11 kW charging?

A 22 kW cable works perfectly technically, but is heavier, more expensive, and less flexible. An 11 kW cable is more compact and perfectly matches your charging needs.
